Our Story

San Tan Valley Barbell Club was founded out of a simple belief: lifting should be honest, accessible, and empowering.

After decades of coaching, competing, and helping lifters reach their full potential, John Melone saw a need for a different kind of space — one that stripped away the noise and focused on what really matters: proper training, real results, and a community that lifts each other up.

What started in a garage became a trusted local haven for lifters from all walks of life — from beginners learning to deadlift to seasoned athletes chasing state records. Whether you’ve never touched a barbell or you’re chasing your next meet PR, there’s a place for you here.
